Osborne Clarke has advised Cologne-based investor neoteq ventures on its investment in UGC start-up Speekly.
With the ever-growing marketing relevance of social media platforms, companies are increasingly focusing on advertising that is as authentic as possible, rather than glossy photo spreads. Testimonials from real users – what started with influencers has become professionalised under the term user-generated content (UGC). Instead of agencies or companies, users create videos, photos, blog articles, etc. as content creators.
Bringing these creators together with their clients – that is the business model of the Cologne-based start-up Speekly. Founded in 2022 by Nanosch Adams and Nico Schneider, the vertically integrated marketplace for UGC advertises with 6,000 creators and reference customers such as Asam Beauty or Wolt. Compared to professional productions, the prices for UGC products are low here: At Speekly, a 15-second video is available for as little as EUR 79. If an order is successfully placed, Speekly receives a pro rata margin.
The Osborne Clarke team advising neoteq ventures, led by Nicolas Gabrysch (Corporate / VC), consisted of Benedikt Hülsmann, Victor Robertz (both Corporate), Johanna Reiland, Nils-Frederik Wiehmann, Karin Sültrop (all Employment), Dr Lina Böcker, Benjamin Schaum, Maximilian Bodamer, Tim Schmetzer (all IT), Manuel Schuster (Antitrust), and Lotte Mues (IP).
