Osborne Clarke has advised the founders of the German hiking app komoot on its acquisition by the Italian technology company Bending Spoons.
komoot, known for its specialised outdoor navigation software, was founded in Potsdam in 2010 and has since developed into one of the leading platforms for outdoor route planning. With over 45 million users worldwide, especially in Europe, komoot is particularly popular among hikers, cyclists and trail runners.
Bending Spoons has served a billion people across the globe through its suite of digital technology businesses, including Brightcove, Evernote, Meetup, Remini, StreamYard, and WeTransfer. Its products are currently used by more than 300 million people each month.
Markus Hallermann, CEO and co-founder of komoot, emphasised that the company has successfully implemented its original vision of making outdoor adventures accessible to everyone. “Scaling a company requires a different mindset and skill set than building one. That’s why we believe Bending Spoons, with its unique expertise in driving innovation and scaling platforms, is the perfect partner to lead komoot into the future,” said Hallermann.
The Osborne Clarke team, led by Nicolas Gabrysch, consisted of Fabian Mimberg, Benedikt Hülsmann (all Corporate / VC), Ann-Kristin Lochmann, Dr Jens Wrede, Patrick Seiler, Stephanie Bihler (all Tax), Dr Lina Böcker, Adrian Schneider, Tim Schmetzer (all IT) and Nils Wiehmann (Employment).
