Osborne Clarke has advised ScrapBees, a recycling start-up from Neuss, on a successful funding round of EUR 4 million. The funding round was led by NRW.BANK and EIT RawMaterials, with additional participation from Bonventure and several business angels.

ScrapBees, which operates under the brand name SchrottBienen, specialises in the collection and recycling of scrap metal. Founded in 2020 by Florian Kriependorf, Sebastian Kopsan, and Thilo Hamm, the start-up primarily targets craft businesses, especially in the sanitary, heating and air conditioning sectors. With its own fleet of over 30 vehicles and around 60 employees, ScrapBees offers a comprehensive service from collection to delivery to recyclers.

“We not only take old heating systems out of the basement but also help with bringing in new systems and take care of recycling all construction waste,” explains Hamm. “Our goal is to form the backbone of the heating transition.”

The Neuss-based company has now successfully completed a funding round of EUR 4 million. In addition to the new investors NRW.BANK and EIT RawMaterials, a European innovation network in the raw materials sector, the impact fund Bonventure and several business angels are once again participating.

With the fresh capital, ScrapBees plans to offer its services in additional regions of Germany and to tap into new markets. A particular focus is on cooperation with the GC Group, a leading wholesaler for building technology.

The Osborne Clarke team, which advised ScrapBees under the lead of Benedikt Hülsmann and Partner responsibility of Nicolas Gabrysch, consisted of Fabian Mimberg, Dr Jana Bertus, Fenja Striesow, Ann-Kristin Lochmann and Lucas Schmiegelt.
