Dr Stephan Reisner is a patent litigator and advises national and international mid-sized companies and groups on intellectual property law. He focuses on patent law, employee invention law, and trade secret protection. He represents his clients in and out of court and on the defence of property rights. He is a representative before the Unified Patent Court (UPC). Furthermore, he also supports clients in drafting and negotiating IP-contracts as well as in the technical advice on product liability cases.

Stephan has strong expertise on technology involving mechanics, electronics, information technology, and ‘access to data’ claims. He is primarily active in the automotive and energy sector (in particular wind energy and green hydrogen). Part of his advice in international technology related disputes focuses on the assessment of manufacturing and distribution of spare parts or daily consumer goods and of remanufacturing of products under patent law. Furthermore, he advises on protection of data and software under copyright and patent law. In patent disputes, Stephan also advises his clients in parallel validity proceedings before the German and European Patent Offices, the Federal Patent Court or the Federal Court of Justice.

In Germany, Stephan advises his clients in patent infringement proceedings (patent litigation) from the office in Cologne. Cologne is in the immediate vicinity of one of the most important jurisdictions for patent disputes worldwide, Düsseldorf.

Stephan studied law in Bonn. Afterwards he worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Civil Law, Intellectual Property Law and Unfair Competition Law at the University of Bonn and completed his doctorate in patent law (Exhaustion in Patent Law).

Prior to joining Osborne Clarke in 2018, he completed his legal trainee ship in Bonn, Cologne and Sydney, whereby he worked, inter alia, for a big German television broadcaster and an IP boutique.

As a member of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR) and the Association of Intellectual Property Experts (VPP), Stephan is an author of publications in Intellectual Property journals.
