Welcome to this week's Knowledge Collection
What to expect in 2025 for digital markets, employment law, intellectual property and building safety
The first day of the year saw the digital markets and competition aspects of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 come into force, with the consumer element to follow from April. Our Insight looks at what businesses should know about the new regimes.
This year will also see significant employment law reforms, heralded by the government's Make Work Pay paper, and the subsequent introduction of its Employment Rights Bill with further plans set out in a Next Steps paper. Our employment team offers five predictions for employers on what to expect in 2025 and a webinar next week on how to prepare for some of the main changes.
There is much potential change afoot in intellectual property law too – a consultation is currently running on significant proposals relating to copyright law and AI and our IP experts round up what else to look forward to this year, in both the EU and UK.
The pace of change in building safety also looks set to continue in 2025: with clarity being offered in a number of areas in the recently published remediation acceleration plan, new buildings regulations guidance expected and important hearings awaited in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. At the end of this month, our construction team will look at some of the key cases in their construction disputes review of the year webinar.
