UK Knowledge Collection | US trade tariffs, unfair commercial practices, and securities litigation
Published on 11th April 2025
Welcome to this week's Knowledge Collection

Businesses looking to mitigate the impact of the US's new tariffs on their commercial arrangements and supply chains will want to understand how their current and future contracts may be affected. Our Insight looks at some of the contractual options that may be available.
The "unfair commercial practices" elements of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act came into effect on 6 April, affecting all consumer-facing businesses. Just ahead of this deadline, the Competition and Markets Authority issued its final guidance on unfair commercial practices, and a number of other pieces of guidance that it consulted on last year. Our Eating Compliance for Breakfast webinar series includes a session on 1 May on responding to CMA information notices under the Act.
There has been an increase in shareholders seeking to pursue litigation against issuers under sections 90 and 90A of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 – though the majority of cases brought to date have settled at preliminary stages. Our Insight considers how this may be about to change and recent case law, and our webinar on 15 May looks more broadly at group actions.
