UK Knowledge Collection | Corporate criminal liability, energy innovation, and protected philosophical beliefs

Published on 7th Jul 2023

Welcome to this week's Knowledge Collection

Two people walking and talking in a business setting

Significant reform to the corporate criminal liability regime has been introduced through an amendment to the Economic Crime and Transparency Bill, currently proceeding through Parliament. The amendment expands the scope of the corporate criminal attribution test to include senior managers within the ambit of individuals deemed to represent the "controlling mind" of a company.

The need for energy innovation, particularly in view of the decarbonisation agenda, has attracted widespread government support and is increasingly of interest to funders and investors. We have published a summary of grant funding options currently available for innovation projects. Our webinar next week considers how best to manage energy projects and maximise returns across the project lifecycle.

Finally, helpful guidance in relation to protected philosophical beliefs in the workplace has recently been provided by the Employment Appeals Tribunal. It offers a framework for employers in determining a course of action in handling cases where personal beliefs potentially affect the workplace.
