John is a partner in the UK IP Disputes practice.

John is one of the most experienced IP litigators in the profession. He has acted in several leading IP cases including acting for SkyKick in the 2024 Supreme Court trade mark case Sky v SkyKick. This is the most important trade mark case to come before the English courts in recent years. He has handled cases at all levels of the English and EU court system including the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, CJEU, High Court and IPEC.

John is ranked in Legal 500, Chambers (Band 3), IP Stars.

John advises on all IP rights. In relation to trade marks, John acted for SkyKick in the landmark Supreme Court trade mark dispute against Sky relating to the law of bad faith in trade mark applications. John also acted for the successful claimant in Sazerac v Halewood (High Court and Court of Appeal), the leading case on indirect confusion in trade mark infringement cases.

He also acts in copyright, design right, database rights, confidential information, passing off matters and IP licensing including licensing disputes.
