UPDATE: Tenant Fees Act becomes law

Published on 18th Feb 2019

Further to our article on 21 January 2019, the Ministry of Housing, Community and Local Government has now announced that the Tenant Fees Bill has received Royal Assent and has now become law.

The Tenant Fees Act 2019 (as it is now known) will come into effect on 1 June 2019. Along with banning tenant letting fees, the Tenant Fees Act will also restrict other types of fees that the landlord can charge under assured shorthold tenancies, as well as placing a statutory cap on tenant deposits.

The recent announcement from the MHCLG is available here.
