UK Knowledge Collection | Autumn Budget, data law reform, and Online Safety Act implementation
Published on 1st Nov 2024
Welcome to this week's Knowledge Collection
Earlier this week, the chancellor of the exchequer announced the first Budget since the government's election. Our tax team provides an overview on the business tax measures announced, and you can read more Insights about the impact of the Budget on business, including the changes in relation to pensions.
Also this week, the government published its much-anticipated data bill. While much of it is not new, the bill goes well beyond data protection and contains many intricate provisions, with more to be fleshed out in secondary legislation. Our Insight looks at some of its principal provisions.
The phased implementation of the Online Safety Act is largely on schedule. Services caught by the Act will have just three months to conduct their illegal content risk assessments once Ofcom's code of practice on illegal harms is published in December.
Our Regulatory Outlook now covers digital regulation, alongside updates on areas such as ESG, consumer law, and advertising and marketing. Next month's edition will be preceded by our All Day Breakfast in-person event in London, which rounds up a number of pressing business compliance issues, including how to manage ESG obligations strategically, and to mitigate risk in specific areas: failure to prevent tax evasion; anti-money laundering; competition compliance under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumer Act; and sanctions.
