Placing your bets in 2015: What’s hot in mobile? (Part 3)

Published on 20th Feb 2015

Here’s the final instalment in the three part series of blogs looking at Osborne Clarke ‘what’s hot in mobile’ event, held on the 11th February.

Three start-ups provide insight into the use of mobile in enterprise

Finally, three businesses demonstrated their products to the floor and showed how mobile can help businesses in 2015.

“In the world of mobile we shouldn’t forget that people learn best from people.”

Kapil Singhal (CEO and founder at humanLearning) discussed how precious information is rarely captured in time for management to act on it. Half a billion people are part of a mobile workforce. These ‘knowledge workers’, people who meet clients and leaders and interact consistently throughout their organisation, come into many nuggets of priceless information that are seldom captured entirely. Mobiles now provide the ability to easily collect and share these insights instantly and accelerate business. humanLearning’s app uses a phone camera to video your information and quickly share it across the world.

“When did typing become more important than communication skills and talking?”

Lee Stonehouse (CEO and founder of Venncomm) discussed how poor communications can be in the business world. Emails take forever to draft but still might be unclear and faster methods, such as text and instant messages, are unsuitable. Speech is still the superior method of communication but conference calls are logistically challenging and often poor quality. “Technology must add quality and efficiency to our relationships and lives,” and now mobile can allow this. Lee demonstrated how Venncomm’s BLAP app was able to call 16 people in under 5 strokes of the keyboard using telephony to guarantee a clear quality call that VoIP cannot provide.

“Mobile… it’s not about sales and marketing, it’s about how you enable your business through data.”

Toby Abel (founder and CTO of Krzana) shared the beginnings of his real-time data mining platform, Krzana, by asking, “with huge volumes of data delivered in a single second, how do you search for the nuggets of data you want?”. Sandip Sarda (CEO of Krzana) then explained how data mining is not simply about finding news stories and being the first to report them in the media, but also about extracting valuable information to push businesses forward in many ways. Uses include indentifying trends ahead of traditional platforms, collecting product feedback directly from customers and building customised information and media platforms in B2B and B2C environments.
