On the back of the Government’s manifesto promises to curtail onshore wind development and the recent announcement to end the renewables obligation subsidies early, the Government has now amended the National Planning Guidance. The amendments, in our opinion, will significantly limit any new planning permissions being granted for onshore wind. Read all about the announcement here

The Financial Conduct Authority has published the terms of reference for its market study into competition in investment and corporate banking. The market study will, in the FCA’s words, “explore whether competition for investment banking and corporate banking study is working well“. Listed companies make their report and accounts publicly available to investors in a variety of digital formats. The Financial Reporting Council’s “Financial Reporting Lab” has recently published a report which covers which online formats are preferred, contains some useful tips on the digital presentation of company accounts, and discusses the role of digital media in company reporting more widely. In October 2014, new section 28B of the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988 (“CDPA”) introduced an exception to copyright for copies made privately under certain conditions. The High Court has ruled that the Government did not have power to introduce this exception, in view of its obligations under the Information Society Directive of 2001. This is unlikely to stop the population from continuing to copy downloads and rip CDs. So where do we go from here? Read the full article here
