In view of the introduction of remote work and technological advances, the legislator decided to amend the Ordinance of the Minister of Labor and Social Policy of December 1, 1998. on the safety and health of work in positions equipped with screen monitors.
The Ordinance of the Minister of Family and Social Policy, dated October 18, 2023, came into effect on November 17, 2023, while employers have until May 17, 2024 to fulfill their obligations under it.
The main changes that the Ordinance introduced:
- Change in definitione of workplace,
- The obligation to retrofit workplaces with monitors or a special stand, in cases where the employee performs work at a laptop (or other portable device with a screen) for at least half of the daily working hours, and an additional keyboard and mouse,
- The possibility to co-finance employees (not only glasses but also) contact lenses.
In addition, the amended Annex to the Ordinance changes the existing requirements for occupational health and safety and ergonomics to be met by workstations equipped with screen monitors, which requires verification of existing workstations and updating of internal company regulations, e.g.: occupational risk assessments.
- Thus, OC experts offer:
- Verification of existing intra-company regulations on the organization of workstations with monitors;
- Review and update of occupational risk assessments for jobs/workplaces with screen monitors;
- Adjusting or creating internal regulations;
- Advising on the modification or introducing procedures for co-financing eyeglasses or contact lenses;
- Verification of documents related to remote work in terms of health and safety (update/preparation of information containing rules for safe and hygienic performance of remote work);
- Preparation of information for employees or internal communications.
