Dr. Thomas G. Funke, LL.M.

Thomas Funke leads the competition practice in Germany. He advises on antitrust litigation, competition compliance, distribution and merger control.

His experience includes cartel damages litigation before the European Court of Justice and the German Supreme Court. Representing leading retail groups and international claims funders, Thomas helped secure decisions in Akzo v Commission (T-345/12), CDC v Commission (T-437/08) as well as the ECJ Hydrogen Peroxide (C-352/13) and BGH Coffee Roaster litigation.

As lead counsel in German and EU Commission antitrust investigations, Thomas has represented key players from the automotive, energy, banking and technology sectors. He recently defended a multinational technology company in EU cartel investigations and secured expedited merger clearances for several ten-digit life sciences transactions from the German Federal Cartel Office.

Thomas has been recognised as a leading expert for the EU competition framework for the motor vehicle sector. He has led international projects involving the sector-specific Block Exemption, aftermarket competition, telematics and the connected car.

Thomas is regularly recommended by Global Competition Review, Legal 500 and JUVE.

After studying in Bonn (Dr. jur.), Caen, Lausanne, Berkeley, and Virginia (LL.M.), he trained in Cologne and Brussels. He joined Osborne Clarke in 2002, and became a partner in 2009.
