International legal practice Osborne Clarke has appointed Ashley Hurst to lead its international Tech, Media and Comms Sector.

Ashley will work closely with the key UK and international members of the Tech, Media and Comms Sector Group as well as collaborating closely with the other Sector Leaders to support the delivery and evolution of Osborne Clarke's sector-first strategy.

Having trained at Hogan Lovells, Ashley spent 10 years at Olswang prior to joining Osborne Clarke in 2016. He advises some of the world’s leading technology companies and fast growth Digital Businesses on the challenges they face as they expand in Europe, including in relation to intermediary liability. He is a recognised expert in reputation and crisis management as well as data privacy, cyber security and incident response. He is ranked as a leading individual for defamation and privacy in both Chambers & Partners and Legal 500.

Ashley succeeds Adrian Bott who headed up the sector for six years. Adrian relocated to Hong Kong at the start of April to support Osborne Clarke’s associated law firm there, Koh Vass and Co., with a key recruitment and business development programme. Ashley will take up the role with immediate effect.

Simon Beswick, international CEO at Osborne Clarke said:

"Ashley is a talented and personable lawyer who has a wealth of experience and knowledge in the Tech, Media and Comms sector.  He will bring these skills to bear in helping to grow our current client relationships, reinforce our reputation as international sector leaders and to position Osborne Clarke as the go-to law firm for businesses both today and in tomorrow's world."

Commenting on his appointment, Ashley Hurst said:

"It's a very exciting time to be taking on this role given all the activity in Tech, Media and Comm sector. I look forward to working closely with the rest of the international team not only to deliver growth in this diverse sector but also to capitalise on cross-sector growth areas such as digital health, PropTech and FinTech."
