International legal practice Osborne Clarke has advised the Foresight Group on the acquisition of a utility scale 10MW battery storage facility in Nevendon, Essex from GRIDSERVE® and Aura Power.
The battery will provide Enhanced Frequency Response services to National Grid, positioning the project as an essential part of the energy transition to a more flexible, low carbon energy network. Construction on the project will start immediately with full commissioning due Q1 next year.
The transaction is further evidence of Foresight’s expansion into the energy and battery storage sector and its focus on the transition in global energy markets, complementing its 1GW of existing, solar, gas and energy from waste generation assets.
Foresight is a long standing and valued client of Osborne Clarke, who previously advised Foresight in June 2017 on the acquisition of a 35MW battery storage facility at Port of Tyne. With these two projects Foresight owns 45MW of the 200MW assets granted in the National Grid EFR auction.
The Osborne Clarke team who advised on the transaction was led by Corporate Partner Matthew Lewis who was supported by Corporate Associate Director Chris Yeo, Real Estate Associate Director Dave Kerr and Projects Senior Associate Deborah Harvey, Partner Carl Thompson and Senior Associate Duncan Parker.
Client Partner Matthew Lewis commented:
“Foresight is a leader in renewable-enabling infrastructure. We are proud to have worked with them over a number of years and delighted to have been able to advise them in relation their investment in the Nevendon battery storage project, one of the UK’s most advanced Enhanced Response Projects.”
