International legal practice Osborne Clarke has advised UK cyber specialists Garrison Technology Ltd on its £22.9m funding round to support future growth and the development of its safe browsing cloud service.

The company’s unique technology enables users to access all content on the web without any risk of exposing their organisation to cyber-attack. Instead of relying on a traditional threat detection-based model, it uses a revolutionary technique to place a gap at the most fundamental electronic level between the internet and the end-user’s device. This means that malicious web content never comes into contact with the user or their organisation’s IT systems.

Ultra-secure government and military customers have been among the first to benefit from the technology, which is now being adopted by mainstream commercial organisations due to its affordability and the increasing cyber threat they are facing.

Garrison's CEO David Garfield commented: "Organisations today recognise the ever-growing threat to their most sensitive data and systems posed simply by allowing employees to browse the web, but until now they’ve faced an unhappy choice: restrict web access and allow productivity to suffer, or run the risk of exposure to hackers.

"We’ve designed the world’s first truly secure web browser to solve this problem, applying national-security-grade levels of protection to the commercial environment – at an accessible price point – in a way that doesn’t destroy the user experience as employees go about their work.”

Osborne Clarke has advised long-standing client Garrison on each of its funding rounds, raising more than $50m at prevailing exchange rates over the last four years, all from London-based investors. The team that advised on the matter was led by Janita Good who was supported by Alec Bartlett. Michael Carter and Dan Sharman provided incentives advice.

Lead client Partner Janita Good commented: "It's now increasingly evidenced that cyber disruptions can happen to any business. One of the key lessons is that organisations need to improve and mature their cyber risk management – and own this at board level. Garrison offers organisations a unique way to fully remove a whole class of cyber threat, whilst continuing enable business operations and efficiency.”

Osborne Clarke’s corporate team is considered a go-to practice for many companies, working with global businesses to fast-growth start-ups and market challengers. The team advises at every stage of company development across all corporate issues, from equity and debt fundraisings to M&A, IPOs and JVs.
