Rafael is the Head of Arbitration and Litigation in Spain.
Rafael is a reputed litigator and has extensive experience in handling complex commercial litigation and arbitration cases, both domestic and international. Rafael has been acting around 30 years before the Spanish Courts at all levels and has represented a wide number of top tier companies in claims reaching millions in value. He has also acted as counsel in international arbitrations under the UNCITRAL, the ICC and ICSID rules. On the domestic side, he has conducted a large number of arbitrations both ad hoc and institutional before the CIMA and the Madrid Chamber of Commerce arbitration courts. Rafael also sits as an arbitrator and has acted as sole arbitrator and as a member (chairman) of the tribunal. He is also a member of the London Court of International Arbitration and of the Spanish Arbitration Club. Rafael is a recognised practitioner in dispute resolution according to Chambers and Partners and is also listed by Best Lawyers in the fields of Litigation and of Arbitration and Mediation.
Rafael also gives regular advice on corporate and commercial matters and he has advised on transactions related to sectors such as Construction, Energy, and Real Estate, and has wide experience in advising on foreign investments in Spain and, in general, all matters concerning international law. He is Secretary of the Board of Directors of several companies.
Rafael is a professor of international procedural law at ISDE and has been a lecturer at several Universities. Rafael graduated in law from Salamanca University and holds a Master’s degree in private law from CEU University. He is a member of the Madrid Bar Association.
