International legal services provider, Osborne Clarke has strengthened its global network by entering into a formal best friend relationship with BTG Legal, a new entrant in the Indian legal market.

The former co-head of Osborne Clarke’s India Group, Prashant Mara, has founded the new independent law firm. He worked at Osborne Clarke in Cologne and London from 2009 until February 2014.

This is the second firm that Osborne Clarke has launched a relationship with in Asia following the announcement of a strategic alliance with John Koh & Co in Hong Kong. It marks the second phase of Osborne Clarke’s investment beyond Europe and the USA – it has grown from 6 offices to 19 offices worldwide over the past 3 years.

Simon Beswick, CEO, says:

“We have a close working relationship with BTG Legal and with Prashant in particular. Together, Osborne Clarke and our Indian law firm colleagues provide seamless advice to clients operating in India, looking to invest in India or entering the Indian Market for the first time. Equally, we assist Indian clients operating or looking to invest outside India.

“Over the next few months we will be looking to broaden our Asian offering and build our international practice in the continent.”

Ulrich Bäumer, head of the India Group at Osborne Clarke in Germany says:

“This move will mean a lot to our many existing clients and contacts in the sub-continent looking towards Europe and the States as well as our European clients who are looking to expand into India. Given our shared history, values and close ties, I think it’s great news for all involved.”

James Mullock, head of the India Group at Osborne Clarke in the UK says:

“Although the relationship between OC and BTG Legal is not exclusive – in line with Indian regulations – many clients will choose to work with both organisations together as this is the best way of tapping into our combined sector and local market expertise, our networks and our joint experience of working with Indian organisations.

“Clients tell us that they find the close working relationship saves them time and money, and improved the level of service that they receive.”

The two firms have already jointly acted on matters for Facebook, First Solar, TRUMPF, Aveva, Investec and Cartelis.

What Indian clients say about working with Osborne Clarke:

“Osborne Clarke is a trusted confidante and advisor for Tata Motors Limited and we are very satisfied with the services we have received. We have found them to be very efficient and prompt in helping unravel the complexities of EU laws to resolve business issues.” – Rajesh Bagga, head of legal Tata Motors

“Osborne Clarke has been working with NASSCOM to facilitate business both between India and Germany, particularly facilitating Indian companies setting up operations in Germany. It has been a pleasure working with them. They are well networked with the industry and local authorities and have been extremely committed to our mutual cause.” Som Mittal, former President NASSCOM
