International legal practice Osborne Clarke has advised Nexeon on a significant US$80 million investment from a consortium including SKC Co. Ltd (SKC), SJL Partners LLC (SJL), BNW Investment Co. Ltd, (BNW) and Kiwoom Private Equity Inc. Ltd (Kiwoom). Through the transaction, Nexeon enters into a strategic partnership with SKC, a major global battery and semiconductor materials company.

The fundraising and formation of a manufacturing partnership are part of Nexeon’s manufacturing strategy to accelerate the supply of its ground-breaking silicon anode materials at volume in order to meet the rapidly increasing demands from its blue-chip customers in automotive and consumer electronics industries across Europe, North America and Asia.

The investment confirms Nexeon’s position in the market and allows the company to deliver on its manufacturing and commercialization strategy.

SKC, a US$5.0bn market cap company, is one of Korea’s leading advanced materials companies, with a strategic focus on rechargeable battery, semiconductor and eco-friendly materials and a global presence in Europe, North America and Asia. SJL is a private equity firm that seeks cross-border investments in partnership with Asia-based strategic investors.

Rob Hayes, Partner Osborne Clarke said:

"Having incorporated Nexeon in 2006 and supported it through multiple funding rounds over the past 15 years, it was a real pleasure to work with Scott and David on such a significant transaction. It was fantastic to be able to work on a deal knowing that Nexeon's technology will have such a positive effect on the environment and will play a vital role for future sustainability. It was great to have the support of colleagues who understand the sector and are able to use this knowledge to provide focussed, commercial legal advice".

Dr Scott Brown, CEO of Nexeon:

"We have worked with Rob for many years now, so we were very pleased to have him and the Osborne Clarke team working alongside us on the transaction. It was a complex deal in many aspects, so, to have a team that has a deep understanding of our technology, company history and sector, and is also highly experienced in venture capital and licensing work was not only very reassuring but critical to our success.  We also found the team to be highly responsive and offered us the perfect blend of in-depth legal advice and a commercial approach to help us navigate our way through the process".
