Truly expert sponsorship advice is hard to find. Some law firms handle sponsorship work as part of their 'sports law' practice. We don't. We come at it from a brand and business angle, bringing a vital commercial edge and understanding to the process. So while we know the mindset and the commercial objectives of sports' teams, players and governing bodies, we also make it our business to understand the worlds of television, radio, press, music, film, events, interactive entertainment and other media.

While we are increasingly viewed as the top choice for innovative and cutting edge sponsorship, endorsement and brand partnership deals, our sponsorship team covers the full range of activity. We regularly advise on major national and international deals with sports' teams, venues, cultural events, expeditions, TV shows, radio properties and individuals.

We are rated by both the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners guides as one of the two leading UK law firms for work in this area. The latter states: "[The team] advised on several high-profile sponsorship deals… experienced sponsorship specialists…with nearly 20 years' experience of advising sports clients".

Our clients include not just sponsors of all shapes and sizes, but also sponsorship consultants and owners of sponsored properties.

Our lawyers are regular speakers at sponsorship seminars and conferences run by organisations such as Independent Schools' Bursars Association, the Association of International Broadcasters and the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising. We also play an active role in lobbying, education and industry standards initiatives of the European Sponsorship Association.

Examples of our recent experience include:
  • advising Weetabix on its sponsorship of the British Olympic Association and Team GB around Athens 2004. Alongside the sponsorship deal we also advised on a £5 million on-pack promotion and the various commercial contracts relating to this
  • advising Lloyds TSB on its sponsorship of the Welsh Rugby Union
  • advising IKEA on contract negotiations and other aspects of What You Wish For, an advertiser-funded programming TV show broadcast on UKTV and paid for by IKEA.
