Project Finance
divider
The key issues for project funders are preserving future income streams and ensuring a sensible risk-transfer strategy is adopted by the borrower. Osborne Clarke's project finance and commercial projects teams combine to act across the spectrum, advising funders, sponsors, equity investors, developers, contractors and FM providers.

We are at the forefront of advising on private finance initiative (PFI) schemes and public private partnerships (PPP). We are currently advising on acute, community and mental health PFI hospital projects, Wave 4 Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) and Independent Sector Treatment Centres (ISTC) schemes in the health sector plus various schemes in the defence, waste and education sectors.

Our project finance team advises on deal structuring, finance and project documentation for PFI/PPP, development and construction schemes. Commercially focused, we do not waste time on unhelpful issues. Instead, we prefer to focus on ensuring all the relevant protections are in place so that the deal can proceed. We work closely with the sponsors in order to achieve a robust, fully priced risk profile within the envelope of current PFI/PPP standardisation.

Our clients include sponsors, lenders, authorities and contractors and span a variety of sectors including health, technology, waste management, rail, housing, defence and renewable energy. We are on the advisory panels of a number of UK clearing banks and we are also an adviser to many other UK and international institutions.

All our project finance clients share one thing in common; they receive market-leading advice on establishing financial structures and forms of ownership to meet the requirements of individual transactions.

Examples of our recent experience include:
  • The Co-operative Bank on the South East Essex LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust) project
  • Eldon Housing Association on a tranche of senior debt for the Caring4Croydon Social Housing PFI Project
  • Northern Ireland Health Group on its bid for the South West PFI Hospital in Eniskillen
